Elegy Synthetica takes place in a raw industrial space inside a historic building. You’ll walk through dark passages — sometimes in near-darkness, sometimes with bright light — and you’ll wear a masquerade mask during the performance. For questions, concerns, or accessibility requests, please contact david.ramsay@depaul.edu.
Are you sure you cannot attend? Your reservation will be released and offered to another guest. You may rebook any open time with this same link.
Elegy Synthetica is presented by the DePaul University Idea Realization Lab (IRL) inside the historic Field Building at 135 S. LaSalle. Special thanks for project funding and support to Eugene Jarvis.
This project was conceived, produced, and directed by Dr. David Ramsay as an homage to his favorite moments from Punchdrunk Immersive and Pink Floyd live stagings. The IRL staff that brought this to life include Auriel Kremp, Matthew Reichard, Aiden Bozeman, Alisa Zharkova, Jinx Norvell, Jonathan Shepard, Leah Richerson, Asaph Matis, Ean Rains, Leo Walsh, Aleksander Shavachuk-Baranovskyj, and Nate Seligson.
Sound design and music for Elegy Synthetica comes from IRL staff member Jonathan Shepard. The classical section featuring selections of Elgar’s concerto in E minor was arranged and composed by Thomas Nickell. Musical performances are provided by Mina Zikri and the Avant Orchestra musicians as well as indie vocalist/guitarist Lylah Elizabeth Field.
Special thanks to Amy Peter and the theater school for set support; Shane Kelly for advice on rigging and sets; and internal support from the DePaul Legal Team, Lucia Dettori and the Dean’s Office, and Robert Manuel and the President’s Office.
The venue has been made available by Field Building Revitalization Partners. As this landmark 1934 property prepares for its next chapter, this inaugural event reflects a vision for the building as a continuing home for arts, culture and gathering in downtown Chicago.
